The right Jesus

equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen,  Hebrews 13:21

Hello everybody, I hope everyone is well and enjoying March 2012. Personally, I am attending a Church (Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church) that I believe teaches sound biblical doctrine and points people to the right Jesus. They have a website so please check it if you like. There are many churches that point people to the real Jesus, but unfortunately there are many that do not, or individuals make for themselves a false Jesus.

If we get anything right in this life, it is essential that we get the right Jesus. I have just finished a course that discussed the life of the Apostle Paul, it was taught by Dr. Hans Bayer of Covenant Theological Seminary. One of the most striking points in the course was about Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus. Paul was a very educated man, he was an ultimate Pharisee, and he was a persecutor of the Church. He knew a lot about God but he missed the right Jesus. He as a Jew was immersed in the Old Testament from childhood. Paul believed he was doing the work of God when he was persecuting the Church.

However, as Paul was traveling to Damascus with the intention of capturing Christians there he ran into the real Jesus. Paul was blinded when Jesus appeared to him. The Majestic Purity of Christ blinded Paul. This experience with the real Christ changed Paul's life, he would recount this meeting with the real Jesus in all his letters. Paul stating that all his training, all his education, all the acclaim that was his was dung, compared to knowing the real Jesus. Everything that Paul stood on before had to be reevaluated in light of this encounter with Christ.

We, as Christians must make sure we are in realtionship with the true Christ, not a Jesus that we have made for ourselves, one with which we are completely at ease with, one who does not correct or discipline us when we sin, one that has no power to convict of sin, one that is not Pure or Holy. We must make sure that we are in a right relationship with the biblical Jesus. That is the only Christ that will save.

How can we know that we are in relationship with the biblical Jesus? We have to compare what we think about Jesus with what the Bible actually says about Jesus. The real Jesus wants to be in relationship with us, it isnt anything he is holding from us, but we must truly desire to know him. We all still have a sinful nature that needs to be straved, and a new holy nature that needs to be fed via prayer, reading of the word and fellowship, sound preaching and participation in the sacraments. These are things that God will use to made us more like Christ.

If you want to see what the real Jesus looks like, the real Jesus that blinded Paul on the road to Damascus read Colossians 1:15-23, It is Paul's description of the Lord he met and it tells us who he is and what he has done for us, and when we see this Jesus, we will, just as Paul, be changed forevermore, let us get this Jesus in our hearts.

Lets us be mindful to lift up ourselves, our families, our churches, the body of Christ, in prayer to our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
