A God who is worthy of Worship

We have been studying the attributes of God, what makes up the God of the Bible, what are the traits of His character and we have been focusing our attention primarily in the book of Deuteronomy.

One of the most important aspect of the character of God in His relationship with humankind is that He is to be worshipped. When we read of the elaborate planning of God in the building of the Tabernacle, the Temple, the clothing of the Priests, the sacrifices that were to be offered, everything that surrounded the worship of God was meticulously laid out by God.

This speaks to the character of God. The word we use for worship has its root in the word for weight in something that is important was weighty. God is expressing that He is weighty.  That is the reason that He cautioned Israel about the sin of idolatry worshipping as god anything but the true God. God warned them not to get involved in the idolatry of the people who would be in the land they were to possess.

When we let something else take the place of God we sin against God. Its not a little sin either. God's worth is attacked when we sin, His character is assaulted when we sin. We, creatures, made by God, held up in our day to day by God, given the breath of life by God, when we sin we attack the One who cares for us and provides for us. Sin's attack against God is so grievous that it can not be paid for once committed. God has not dealt with us accordance to the level and degree of our sin, I am speaking about the totality of sin, those sins that are being committed against this very hour all over the world, those sins that have been committed since Adam and Eve. That is a lot of sin. God destroyed all life from the earth once because of sin. He has promised to judge sin eternally one day.

Moses recounts to the people in Deuteronomy 30 that when the people sin and when they repent and seek forgiveness the LORD will again take delight in prospering them. God is a Eternal Holy Being. Jesus Christ has been sent to pay the debt our sin have placed before God - only the God-Man could pay an eternity worth to free us from that debt. There is no other way to eliminate that debt. All who stand outside the Mercy and Grace of God found only in Jesus Christ will have to pay themselves and they will spend eternity in punishment for a debt they can never pay.

Let us run to Christ when we sin. Let us warn others that Christ pays the debt that we can not pay. Lets tell people about the character of our God, who has provided a way for Himself to delight in us.

Blessings!!
