Romans Chapter 1

Romans 1 opens with Paul stating that he was called to be an apostle for the gospel of God. He goes on to flesh out that gospel throughout the book of Romans. Paul also affirms that Jesus Christ was declared to be the Son of God by being raised from the dead by the Spirit of holiness. One of the main points of the gospel is that our sins were placed on Christ when He was on the cross. The Bible tells us that the penalty for sin is eternal punishment, yet here is Christ being raised from the dead, and not only that but being raised by the Spirit of Holiness, what does holiness have to do with sin? How could Christ be raised if He has our sins on Him? Jesus Christ was 100% man and 100% God. Our sin received the full fury of God's just wrath on Christ, God truly paid the price for our sins, Christ took the punishment for our sins and paid the full price for them because only an eternal God could pay that price, in the amount of time He was on the cross. That's the good news!!
The Bible tells us that Christ give up the eternal glory to take upon himself humanness, it was shameful, yet God so loved us that He send His Son to pay the price of our sin.

Paul tells us that the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, for in it the righteousness of God is revealed, for the righteous shall live by faith. Do you see the the power of God exhibited in the gospel? Salvation is of God, it is His power that saves us. It is His mercy on display. Paul then moves from the gospel to the wrath of God. Telling us that it is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. Paul then states that men by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. He tells us that mankind knows that there is a God, all of mankind, whether they have heard of Christ or not, all humankind knows there is a God. Romans 1:20 states that God's eternal power and divine nature are clearly perceived ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. That is an amazing statement, because most people would say, "well, you know, I don't really believe in God, because there is no evidence of his existence." Yet, God says that looking at the mountains, the trees, the starry sky at night, the wonder and amazement of creation tells that God is.

Romans tells us that humankind suppresses that knowledge choosing not to honor God or give thanks
Listen to Jeremiah 2:5 - Thus says the LORD: "What wrong did your fathers find in me that they went far from me, and went after worthlessness, and became worthless? Romans tells us that because mankind chooses to worship things made by their own hands, conceived in their own minds, God gave them up that phrase is stated three times in this chapter, they are words that should bring fear to man's heart. To be given up on by God, what hope is there for you? what can you do to alter or change that condition? What God is saying here is not just a description of people in the first century but of us today. We are consumed with the same wickedness, sin as those people in the first century were, it is a sin condition. God gave them up to the lusts of their hearts to impurity. God gave them up to Homosexuality. God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done,  Romans states that they became filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, murder, haters of God, and knowing that they are doing wrong and that death is the consequence not only continue but seek others to share in their sin. Romans gives a sound, sobering reason why the wrath of God is revealed from heaven. Most people may think when they hear about the wrath of God, that it means the wrath at the end of time. That is understandable for the fullest of God's wrath will be displayed then. But, Romans tells us that God's wrath is exercised every day, God is going to punish sin, in His great, great mercy, God chooses to not deal with us to the full degree that our sin may call for. That is for us to be worshipful, because their are times described in the Bible where God did deal with peoples sin right then and there.

God's word is truth. We may try to suppress it, ignore it, but that will only harm ourselves. We do not want to be in the condition where God gives us up. The good news is that God warns us, we have His warning in His Word, it is His compassion for us, that He has given us Christ to die and receive His wrath in our place, it is His compassion that He and Christ have sent the Holy Spirit to help us, it is His compassion for us that we can come to Him in prayer, it is His compassion for us that we can plead for forgiveness, and it is His most merciful compassion that He tells us in His word that He Will forgives us, when we ask for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 states that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Unrighteousness is mankind's problem, it is in the wonderful message of the gospel that God has provided pure righteousness for our problem, His own righteousness. What a merciful God we have. There is no excuse, He has provided. The question is do we choose to suppress the truth about Him? or do we fall  at His feet and proclaim Him as the holy, holy, holy - and say: Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. Revelation 4:11.
