Knowledge of God

Before moving on to study the book of Nahum, I wanted to share some thoughts that I have put together reading some material in my TNARS class. The class is titled Humanity, Christ, and Redemption, it is taught by Dr. Robert Peterson of Covenant Theological Seminary, the course is free to the public, they have lots of free courses, so  I would recommend checking them out. The courses address is www.worldwide-classroom.com

In the course, Dr. Peterson talks about man being made in the image of God. Within that discussion he talks about Paul's " theme of recreation." The idea is that after the fall, the image of God has become distorted, it is still in every human being but it is not look at was when Adam and Eve would walk in the cool of the day in communion with God. The theme of recreation is that what Christ restores to us when we become saved is that what was lost because of Adam's sin and the fall. Using Colossians 3:10 he shows that one of those things restored and therefore one of the things lost, is knowledge. That verse tells us that the new self is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

So, one of the verses that came to me as I was thinking about what I was reading in the course, was
2 Corinthians 10: 4-5 - For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Becoming a Christian places you on the road to know God. Hearing the Word of God preached is the number one way God wants you to learn about Him. Faithful preaching will cause the hearers to desire the Word more. To begin their own study of the Word that they might learn more knowledge about God. The verses in 2 Corinthians informs us that their will be opposition to you gaining knowledge. Spiritual opposition. The devil does not want you to gain knowledge about God. So if you do not have a hunger to read the Word, you may be sitting under preaching that is not preaching the Word of God. A Christian should desire to read the Bible - that's just the way it is. So realize that there are forces that do not want you to read the Word do not want you gain a better understanding of our Great God and Savior. As Dr. Peterson states in his course our thinking has been darkened in the fall and we need to renew it with the Word of God. So if you are not daily reading the Word of God, pray that God would put a hunger in you that you like newborn infants, would long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation. (1 Peter 2:2)

We will be studying the Old Testament book of Nahum next - God Bless!!
