The Sweetness of Christ

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. 1 Peter 2:24

Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:20

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.  Romans 6:6

I walk to talk a little bit about the sweetness of Christ. He is sweet to us because he has done the work by which we can be saved and live with God for eternity.  Christ was cruicified, we know that is the basis of Christianity. But, lets talk a little bit about what happened when Christ was on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 says that Christ bore in his body our sins, that means God placed on Christ our sins. We need to look at this very closely and very deeply. You see in Luke 10:20 that Jesus speaks about names being written in heaven, and Philippians 4:3 and Revelation 3:5, and Revelation 20:15 speak about the book of life. The Bible also speaks that God will judge every word, and thought and action that we have ever done. Now think about this for a moment. While Christ was on the cross, God was taking all of our sins, all the evil thoughts that we have ever thought, all the evil words that we have ever spoken, all the evil acts we have ever committed and He placed them on Christ. Thats why 2 Corinthians 5:21 states that He was made to be sin who knew no sin. Who made Christ sin? God did, God placed all of the filth and wickedness that he has recorded in the books he has on each one of us and placed it on Christ making Him sin. That is absolutely amazing, we who were on our way to hell because we had no way to get off that eternal damnation highway, God provides rescue, He delivered us by placing our sin on Christ and then punishing Him with His just wrath because of our sin. But there is more, 2 Corinthians 5:21 goes on saying "so that we might become the righteousness of God." So how did we become the righteousness of God, because just like God imputed or charged to Christ's account our sin, He also imputed or charged to our account the righteousness of Christ. That is the Holy ground of eternal salvation - that is the wisdom of God - Paul rejoices in Romans 12:33 "Oh, the depths of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!"

Paul also states in 1 Corithians 2:6-8 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away but we import a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory, None of the rulers of this age understood this, if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The Lord of Glory is our great redeemer. God in His wisdom purposed in His heart a plan to redeem His people that plan was hidden to the rulers of this age. While they thought they were stopping the plan of God by crucifying the Sweet Lord of Glory, all along they were following God's plan, (although unknowingly) . His plan to resuce sinners form the Hand of Satan and the mouth of Hell. Every demon was tricked , every devil was tricked every enemy of God was tricked dont miss the part of the verse that states this was decreeded before the ages for our glory. It is amazing, truly amazing that God would work our salvation out in this fashion. Glory! Glory! Glory!

"For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified."  Romans 8:29-30

Those who God has truly saved are on that road that these two verses describe, you have been predestined, you have been called, you have been justified and you will be glorified. But the point you need to be concerned about , is the point where we all stand right now on that road and it is - conformed to the image of his Son. Thats where we are at, the part of the road called sanctification, the road of holiness - the Holy Spirit making us like Christ. Its the road of Prayer and conscrecration, the road of reading and obeying the Word of God, The Holy Spirit is there always pointing to Christ and reminding us of God's great plan, reminding us what happened at the cross. The Holy Spirit is not a spirit of fear but of power, love and self control. Yield your all to Him.

  1. This greatly encouraged me!! And adjust this week I was questioning the teaching I had heard as a child that said God is going to show us a all our sins when we get to heaven and that is why he is going to be wiping our tears away. But to instead realize that the picture God has of us is not of condemnation but of love that he would take our sin and make it where neither he nor I can see it any longer and place it on his son is as you said, amazing.

    1. Hi Joy - Thanks for your comments! I am glad that this site was able to help you in a small way. I would like to continue encouraging you with this, Please read Hebrews 8:10-12 it tells us that God will made a new covenant with us and one very wonderful aspect of that covenant is when He says : "and I will remember their sins no more."
      God bless you!!
